Day Seventeen

So I started a writing class. It's a primer on screenwriting -- a secret passion. Well, not so secret anymore. I actually started film school part-time last year but I didn't advertise it. For those of you not in the know -- this would be degree #4. Now when you are getting medical and law degrees, four sounds good. REAL good. But Undergrad in Theatre, MFA in Acting, and now 2nd Bachelor's Degree in Film... not so much.

"Wait, Traci, that only adds up to three. I thought that you said this was your fourth degree."

"Oh my, how observant you are, dear reader". Yes there was the second masters degree in business. Sounding good, right? Oh, did I forget to mention that it was in small, non-profit organizational management. My attempt to be better prepared to run my own theatre company.

"Your own theatre company, you say?"

"Oh, did I say that out loud?" Boy, I'm just letting it all out here, aren't I? (Aren't I? There's no amn't but aren't is for you and they? Well, I diverge -- a sadly not uncommon event)

So in the newly brave, honest, Bridget Jones-style "just-as-I-am" way I am doing things, here is what I want. I want to write and produce cozy (read "small") films a la the great, but unfortunately late Adrienne Shelley.

They say that everything that happens to you happens for a reason. To shape you into the person you are meant to be. Well, here's hoping that goes for multiple degrees. If so, I am so set for movie moguldum or a really depressing entry into four different alumni newsletters. Let's go for the former, shall we?

Well, get a bowl 'cause you just spilled the beans. I say good for you to dream a dream and take action to make that dream come true. I'm cheering for you from a Ozark farm nestled 'tween the hills and hollers. I say go-go-go and the best of luck to you.

There is no such thing as too many degrees.

Thanks to the both of you. And Nezzy, you are welcome to holler my way anytime that you like. :-)
