Day 110 or Julie, My Inspiration

Today, the Golden Globe nominations were announced and the film "Julie & Julia" was amongst the honorees. This film is very important to me because it is why 38 and Growing exists.

I am not a cook. This is a well-established fact with lots of evidence to support. While I am trying to remedy this, let's just say that Julia Child and her French recipes were way off radar for me. So, when the movie came out, my interest was limited to the two fabulous actresses at the heart of the two stories -- Amy Adams and of course, Meryl Streep.

I didn't know the story of Julie Powell before the film (and in truth, I only know her story through the film so there of course, could be artistic liberties involved) but her story moved me. Once considered a bright talent with a "future", she found herself working away from her chosen field and feeling lost to her purpose. I know that place. I was in that place.

Julie loved to cook, however, so she started blogging about her challenge to cook all of Ms. Child's recipes in one year. She started out alone in her quest with her mother her only commenter and ended up with tons of followers and a book deal. But that's not the important part. Or at least not to me. Along the way, she grows and finds a value to the things that she does. That was what rang true for me.

I had thought once or twice about writing a blog but never did it. "Julie & Julia" gave me the inspiration I needed. I started the blog just a couple of weeks after seeing the film. And while I have no expectations of a book deal, I have found friends, support, and growth far beyond what I imagined. So thanks to Julie. And thanks to you.

I knew I needed to see that movie because Julia Child was awesome and because Meryl Streep is awesome, but I really had no idea what it was about. Now I have a third reason to see it. Looking forward to it!

I didn't know the movie was nominated! Meryl's performance was crazily eerily amazing. And I <3 Amy Adams, she's too cute. That is great that the movie inspired you as it did. I enjoyed the movie, actually more than the book. I have heard that the blog was hilarious, and so the book may have lost some of that charm, but the movie was loads of fun! Off to read up on the noms now! And I'm glad you shared this with us today, too, btw. :)

I have not seen that movie; I'm not even sure exactly why. I couldn't get too excited because I'm just not a cook. But I love that it inspired you to start blogging! I will have to netflix it for sure. Once I watch the other movie I've had for over a month. :)

Thanks everyone! I can attest that it is a great film for cooks and non-cooks alike.

And Mama-Face, I'm glad that I'm not the only one thst keeps Net Flix films longer than time itself. :-)

I am still dying to see this movie. I can't believe I haven't seen it yet, it's on the top of my list for rentals when hubby is out of town. I think I'll love it as much as you did and hope I find inspiration from it too - along with a few good laughs.
