Day 132 or My Other Love

Well Mr. Words and I had words. I walked out last night -- actually I crashed out at about 9:30 trying to get my insomniac daughter to sleep -- so we were on the outs last night. But today we are talking. You know that stiff, not sure where you stand kind of talking, so tonight, I thought that I would tell you about my other love...

Lists. Yes, you read that right. I am completely in love with lists. I make twenty a day. Easy. While I am trying to be much greener in 2010, this is a tough habit to kick. In my defense, however, I do re-use a lot of things for my lists -- old envelopes, used paper bags, etc. But I have got to have my lists. I've tried using Excel and other spreadsheet options to save paper but it's just not the same as the feel of writing it down.

Now you are probably asking -- what kind of lists are you making, Traci? That is if you haven't fallen off your chair laughing or abandoned me for a saner, non-list-writing, tree-killing blogger. I list everything. Mostly because I love checking things off. I love that little feeling of accomplishment. So whether it is a grocery list or a to-do list, when I check out the item, I feel like I have "done" something.

Now you might be thinking, "that's not so weird, Traci" or "lots of people make lists, Traci", or (more realistically) "what's the big deal, Traci? do you really think this is a blog-worthy topic?" But I mean it when I say that I list everything. If I need to clean the bathroom, I don't just list Clean Bathroom. Because what if I don't finish that day. (Very real possibility, sad to say) Then I can't check off anything. Which basically stinks. I don't feel like I've accomplished anything, But if I list Clean Counter or Mop Floor, then I can check those off. And Oh! how I love to check off. And if I do succeed in finishing the bathroom, I have five or six lovely checks as opposed to simply one.

I list things for my children (who can't read them) and my husband (who won't read them). The only thing I don't list is sex. Maybe that's the problem. Maybe my husband would read the list if it included that.

Oh, well now you know. It's just another thing that makes me "me" (read: a big dork!). Hopefully, Mr. Words will get lonely, sweep me back off my feet, and I will no longer be left with just my lists.

I LOVE checking things off of lists. I used to write lists at work post-completion (not all, just a few items) so I could check them off. We're list-twins! ;)

I am not a list-maker - largely because I get so concerned about what I should put on the list and whether I should prioritize the list and whether I've missed anything that should have been on the list and... But in the world of electronic lists, I am a huge fan of Remember the Milk. (I have not been late with a payment since I started using it!)

Do you keep lists in the bathroom? I know an attorney who actually keeps a marker in the shower so she can make lists on the shower door, if she thinks of things that need to be done while she's in there. :)

Honey, if everyone wrote about sex, then all men would pay attention. Maybe we should start every conversation with..."Tonight when I blow you I'm getting spaghetti at the grocery store and you need to mow the yard."

I prepare lists when I have to go out the places to visit, the things to buy.But I don't make daily ones. Yeah.. that helps one to be more organized.

I love making lists too. There is just something about crossing things out that is so fulfilling! So I'm right there with you on this one.

I like lists but I don't think I could think of twenty every day!

I do the same thing though with the bathroom, for example. I have to put clean floor, clean off counters, clean toilet, etc. I love the checking off too!!!

Snap - I'm also a list maker. In fact I could quite happily write lists about lists.

Making a list sounds like a great idea! Maybe, I should try it. You know you just need to give me a holla if you need to vent. I am always ready listen or go dance away any troubles:-P

I use Excel, but I also have a day planner and I use that to keep track of the HAVE TO's like doctors appointments and such. The true to do stuff like buy more light bulbs, that goes into my planner when I keep forgetting. I also do put lists in my car so that I'll remember all my errands when I leave the house.

Don't feel bad girl!
I NEED to start making lists with my "old timers" kicking in. I forget stuff ALOT! It's embarrassing for me. I'm afraid if I do make a to do list, I'd forget where I put the list too.

Thanks for the tip about adding "sex" to a list for my husband. He seems to hear me when I randomly throw that word in any sentence = )

I write something on a list and then immediately cross it out, just because it feels so very satisfying.

I think I'm going to do Hubs next to-do list as a treasure hunt. Like first fix closet door. Then in the closet the next thing will say "File your crap in the office" and so on. The last thing will say "Now we can have sex". And I'm going to hold out untill he finishes every damn thing on the list.

I may blog this idea.

I like to make lists when I go shopping and part of the fun is always leaving the list at home.
