Day 189 or Friday Fragments

This is my first week to participate in Friday Fragments. It is a wonderful opportunity to share those tidbits that aren't enough for a full post.

This week, my children provided me with lots of fodder. As they say, "kids say the darnedest things!"

My daughter is obsessed with what she calls my son's "peanut". We were working on learning body parts and when I tried to correct her, she insisted that it was a peanut. Not only that but she has begun standing in front of the toilet and states emphatically that she has a peanut and therefore can take care of her business standing like her brother. Boy, is that ammunition for later days!

Also, while we are in the bathroom, she nearly made me wet my pants. She has a very bad habit of stepping onto the ledge of the tub rather than over and I am always stressing that she can fall and get hurt doing that. It is so funny to hear your own words come back through the perspective of a three year old. As she steps out of the bath, she says "Careful! Careful! I can't step there or else I fall and my brain fall out!" (In case it needs to be said, I have never told her that her brain will fall out. )

Driving home from school, my son shared a little of his wisdom. Sitting in his booster chair, he says, "Mommy!" What baby? "Do you know teenagers are learning to be adults?" Whaaaaaat? (Pretty profound, huh? He doesn't even know any teenagers!) "Yeah, and when they learn how to be adults, they grow up. Then they get married." (I chose not to inform him how few people actually grow up before getting married, I figured he had enough years to learn that!)

Finally, a question for myself. "Casual dressy". Is that casual clothes made dressy or dressy clothes made casual? One of my best buddies had a party the other night and that was the directive. I am lost by this. I went with a fun skirt and a sweater but most of the women had on jeans with heels and great tops. What do you wear when it's casual dressy?

Mrs. 4444 hosts this over at Half Past Kissin Time (http://www.halfpastkissintime.com/) . Check it out -- a super lovely blog with one of the best titles I have ever heard.
Thanks, Mrs. 4444.

I am not hip at all, because to me dressy casual is something I would wear to work, and I have never understood the whole jeans with heels thing. :)

Not long after my 2 year old was born, my 4 year old kept insisting his boy parts were poopy I just wasn't cleaning well enough. "MOMMY, you need to wipe the poopy!"

So cute! Kids do say the most awesome things some times. Then they grow into those teenagers and... well... Sometimes it "ain't so cute" ;)

Don't you love it when people just make up a dress code to suit themselves? You were fine with what you wore, and I probably would have gone with the Jeans and a snazzy top - maybe heels but knowing me... prolly not!

you need to write all this down...I wish I did with what my daughter said when she was little. Kids are too funny! Have a great weekend.

Owen today was talking about marriage, too.

"Who will I marry, Mom?"

"Somebody you love more than anything."

"You?"

Sigh....

I would not have had a clue about casual dressy either! I probably would have gone with slacks (which I hate) and then I would have been miserable and wanted to go home. Good thing I wasn't invited! ;)

This wee is my first Friday Fragment too-- It's fun, ah?

Casual dressy, to me, means no flip flops or sweat pants-- Or as I tell my husband-- I'm ironing my jeans. Hope the party is fun.

Have a great weekend.

Oh, it was a WONDERFUL party and I had a great time but I am always a little flummoxed as what to wear.

I like the ironed jeans theory!

I worked with a guy who actually did keep an ongoing journal of all the funny things his kids said. Now's as good a time as any to start.

Casual dressy - I would go with casual dressed up as well. But probably would have gone with khaki pants over jeans.

Happy Friday Frags!

Those made me laugh. I agree it is so funny to hear your words echoed by your kids.

I love the kids innocence and the way they talk. This is the best time to watch and enjoy how they grow.

Your kids are sweet. Three is my all-time favorite age, for the way they think; so entertaining!

Casual dressy, to me, would mean to dress up a pair of jeans. Mr.4444 would wear jeans and a dress shirt. I don't always follow dress code rules though; I figure they can take me or leave me! :)

So glad you joined this week--Nice job!! :)

It's nice to have your children show such concern for you. I try to remember that my daughter tells me "be careful" out of love and not because she knows I'm incapable of walking without falling down.

The peanut story is adorable!

What a great post. My sister also went through a phase believing she could stand rather than sit to do the necessary - something we still remind her of every now and than ..... 40+ years on. Your poor daughter! A great post, I really like this idea.

I"m smiling over your sons teenagers growing up comment. Over the years, both of my girls have chosen the car to bring up topics that normally would stop me dead in my tracks. But going 80 er 65 on the freeway, one can not just stop in their tracks.

Casual dressy does not make sense. Nope, it doesn't.
