Day Thirty - Two

Welcome to month number two!!!

I was listening to Bill Joel's "Just the Way You Are" tonight (which is a classic and does not qualify under the bad 70s music I referenced before) as I tried to get my children to sleep. I was singing along to my kids and therefore I really listened to the words. I've mentioned that I love, love, LOVE the movie, "Bridget Jones's Diary" and my favorite scene in the film (besides the fabulous opening lip-sync scene to "All By Myself" -- which does qualify as bad 70s soft rock) is when Mark Darcy (the yummy Colin Firth) corners Bridget after a horrendous dinner party. After managing to insult her yet again, he tells her that he likes her very much, just as she is. That moment gets me every time. And so does this song. As I am listening, I think, why don't we say these things to ourselves? why do we need to hear them from others. So to myself and to any of you out there, I dedicate this to you, 80's old school radio style.

Don't go changing, to try and please me
You never let me down before
Don't imagine you're too familiar
And I don't see you anymore
I wouldn't leave you in times of trouble
We never could have come this far
I took the good times, I'll take the bad times
I'll take you just the way you are

Don't go trying some new fashion
Don't change the color of your hair
You always have my unspoken passion
Although I might not seem to care

I don't want clever conversation
I never want to work that hard
I just want someone that I can talk to
I want you just the way you are.

I need to know that you will always be
The same old someone that I knew
What will it take till you believe in me
The way that I believe in you.

I said I love you and that's forever
And this I promise from the heart
I could not love you any better
I love you just the way you are.
